Located in northern California and about 15 miles south of Lake Shasta, Redding is a popular tourist destination. With a population of over 100,000 Redding is the County seat of Shasta County.
Situated in the northeast Central Valley at the foot of the Cascade mountains to the north, east and west, and is known for its hot summers and rainy days.
The city of Redding is slowly improving its downtown, Parkview and Garden District, with High density apartments and Town Homes planned for the future due to the summer tourist population increase. The city of Redding is also working on two new commercial real estate developments, Airport Business Park and Stillwell Business Park.
New and existing home sales are adequate with prices in the normal rage in todays economy. Median price for homes are around $240,000 with 37,000 housing units in Redding and 68,000 homes in Shasta County. Median Family Annual Income is about $42,000 per year and about $44,000 for Shasta County with a labor force of around 87,000, with the majority being in the service industry.
Many attractions are available near and around Redding, such as Mt. Lassen, at 10,457 feet above sea level and Mt. Shasta, to the north, at over 14,000 feet above sea level. Other attractions include, Lake Shasta Caverns, Shasta State Historic Park, Lake Shasta, Whiskeytown Lake, Lassen Volcanic National Park and Paul Bunyan's Forest Camp. The Shasta Lake Area is also home to many fine resorts that attract tourists from around the world, along with several well maintained public campgrounds within the Mt. Shasta National Forest boundaries.
The Redding School District provides 46 Public Elementary Schools, 6 Middle Schools and 8 High Schools. There are also 30 Private Schools in the area with a 2 year Community College and a 4 year Private College that offers a Masters Program.
In Conclusion: Redding California is a great place to raise a family. The employment opportunities are adequate, home prices are in line with the national average and the Schools are above national average in performance.
