Asking Increases Your Chances by 200%

Ask and You Shall Receive

In business, and in the rest of your life, asking increases your chances of receiving by 200%. If you don’t ask for what it is that you want, how do you expect you are going to get it? But how can you ask for something if you don’t know what it is that you really want? Laser focus and clear intention produce results. In order to actually get what you want, you have to actually know what it is, and believe You Can get it! Perception is reality and if you come across as confident while asking for what you want, that confidence becomes a reality to whoever is watching.

One of the greatest things that I’ve learned over the course of this past year is that we, as human beings, are our own worst enemies. We are the ones who are responsible for holding ourselves back from everything we’ve ever wanted to do. Think about it! Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you’re in a group of people (perhaps a classroom setting) and you have the solution to an issue or an intelligent idea to share with the class? Chances are you didn’t share them because you told yourself that you were probably wrong, or that no one would care, or that you would sound too bossy by stepping up as a leader and take charge. Or how about the last time you were with a group of people and you heard your favorite song. You wanted to dance, but you didn’t because you didn’t want to look stupid. One of my newest favorite quotes refers to living, loving and dancing like no one was watching! Imagine what that would be like.

The bottom line is that there are things that you want in your life and in order to obtain them, you are going to need help. Unfortunately, you may have to ask for it! Here’s an interesting fact. Did you know that 46% of all salespeople ask for business only one time, in fear of being too pushy and aggressive. 24% of all salespeople ask for business two times. 14% of all salespeople ask three times while 12% of all salespeople ask for business four times. Only 4% of all salespeople ask the same person for their business five times which represents 60% of all business sold! This statistic has a direct correlation to your image conversation. Stop worrying about what other people think about you. As you may have read in the Four Agreements of Small Business, don’t take it personally if someone gets offended or annoyed at your persistent approach. 60% of all business sold in the world is the result of people not being afraid to ask for what they want!

It’s nerve racking, I agree, but you’re not alone! “It is very liberating when you realize that everyone else is walking around just about as afraid as you are. Knowing that everyone else is afraid gives us an edge. Knowing that most people want the same things that we want – safety, acceptance, inclusion, recognition, and an opportunity to express themselves – gives us the edge because we can stop waiting for them to give it to us and we can give it to them,’ – Jack Canfield. This applies in your personal life and in the life of your business.

Think about how different our world would be if some of our great leaders didn’t ask for what they wanted. If in your lifetime you expect to have time off, more support from your friends and your family, a promotion, to be included in the decision making, a raise, an explanation or an extension, you’re going to have to ask for it. Never make assumptions. You cannot assume that people know what you want – so if you don’t ask for it, chances are, you won’t get it. Always remember, in business and in the life, asking increases your chances of receiving by 200%. What’s the worst that can happen? You’re taking a chance that they just might say yes!
