Help me with the name of this SF book - I can't remember!?
I'm an on-again, off-again SF reader, mostly Lois Mcmaster Bujold, Orson Scott Card and Robert Heinlein, with a smattering of Asimov and Bradbury. A few years ago, I read a Book From which I recall a few details, but cannot for the life of me remember what it was called or who wrote it. The first part took place on earth, with scientists working on a way to communicate with and/or travel to another planet. The second part of the story took place on the planet, and was concerned with the beings living there, who lived and reproduced in threesomes. There was a Parental, an Intellectual (I think) and an Emotional. The main characters in this section were a Parental/Intellectual pair who were searching for the right Emotional to complete them so they could be a family. I deeply desire to read this book again; can any of you help me with the name?

Sorry Chicky! I genuinely tried to look for the answer to this question, but to no avail. I used advanced search and typed in all of those terms, plus 'Science Fiction' and 'book'. It gave me a lot of interesting info on how to raise children, but nothing about the book you're looking for.
I think I know why you want to read it again though...threesomes? That sounds oddly familiar....reminds me of Azra....
