Can you survive in Berlin for one year if you cant speak German?
I might get a Very Good job in an international organisation, the job is in English, but I was wondering if You Can Live in Berlin without speaking German, do the population speak a good English?
I am not asking about the job because I will only go to Berlin if I get this perticular job otherwise I prefer staying in the UK, and yes I am EU citizen, my only concern is the life outside my workplace which will only be in English and French.
In Germany they do speak German. My husband is german, and when I went there to visit him before we were married, it was very tough on me. He speaks english also, so every night while I was there he worked with me on the language there. I can tell you it was easier to learn while I was there before I came back to the states. One time when I arrived in Frankfurt, I couldn't find him since my flight got delayed, and nobody understood me. Finally, finally, I found someone to help me and she called my fiance then, on his cell phone. I guess you can make it in Germany, but don't expect it overnight. It will take time to learn the language. I just love Germany and we are planning a trip there in the near future again. Good luck in whatever you decide.
